Ankle Surgery Repair

After ankle surgery, here’s what to expect:

  • Rest: Allow your body time to heal by resting and periodically staying off your feet.

  • Protect: Use a cast, boot, or splint to safeguard your ankle.

  • Ice: Apply ice for 15–20 minutes every 2–3 hours to reduce pain and swelling.

  • Compress: Wear a compression sleeve, Ace wrap, or TED hose stockings to improve circulation and minimize swelling.

  • Elevate: Keep your foot elevated above heart level to reduce swelling.

  • Take pain medication: Follow your doctor’s instructions for pain management.

  • Eat well: A nutritious diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and protein will support healing.

  • Do physical therapy: Physical therapy can strengthen and rehabilitate your ankle.

  • Follow instructions: Carefully adhere to your post-surgery care plan.

Recovery time varies based on the surgery type, age, health, and adherence to care instructions. Most people return to normal activities after 8–12 weeks, though full recovery may take up to a year.
